Karnataka home minister says police uncovered Mysore gangrape case, denies comment on arrest

Mysore gang rape: “Police have succeeded,” the state home minister said without going into details.

Bangalore:

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Gyanendra today said that the police have succeeded in busting the Mysore gang rape case.

He declined to comment on some reports that four or five people have been detained in connection with the incident.

Without going into details, the state home minister said, “The police have been successful.”

Earlier, Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai said that he was confident that the police would unearth the matter at the earliest and arrest the accused.

Mr Bommai said that five teams of police are probing the matter.

“The police have taken the Mysore case very seriously,” he told reporters in Bengaluru. I am sure the police will be able to crack the case at the earliest.

On August 24, a college student rape victim was gang-raped near Chamundi foothills on the outskirts of Mysore. Her male friend who lived with her was attacked by the gang.

Police sources told news agency Press Trust of India that the gang members demanded Rs 3 lakh from them for not making the rape video public.

Karnataka Director General of Police and Inspector General Praveen Sood is overseeing the investigation into the gang rape, which has sparked widespread outrage.
