BENGALURU: The state government is likely to continue the night curfew from January 7 in view of the rising COVID-19 cases and the threat of Omicron edition. It is also considering more containment measures to control the spread of coronavirus.
A final decision on restrictions will be taken by the state cabinet on Thursday. Earlier on Wednesday, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai States will consult with the members of the COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).
“We are monitoring the pandemic situation and the spread of Omicron,” Bommai said on Monday. “The virus is spreading very fast across the country, so we need to discuss measures with experts before bringing it before the cabinet.”
Sources say that the government may impose curfew over the weekend, provided health experts and the cabinet support the plan. But Bommai ruled out any measures that would have a direct impact on the livelihood of the people.
“We have experience in handling two previous Covid waves,” he said.
“Experts have been asked to suggest appropriate measures to control the spread without affecting the daily lives of the people.”
After launching the vaccination campaign for children in the age group of 15-18, Bommai said there is a need to bring the students under a safe bubble. For this a massive vaccination campaign has been planned. He urged the stakeholders to follow the norms like wearing of masks and maintaining social distance.
“We need the coordinated efforts of parents, teachers and health workers to make the vaccination campaign a success,” he said.
“We have set a target to vaccinate around 4 lakh children across the state, including 30,000 children in Bengaluru on the first day. The second dose will be given after 28 days, while the booster dose will be given after January 10 to those above 60 years of age.
