A total of 301 notices have been issued so far against the use of loudspeakers – 59 to pubs, bars and restaurants; 12 for industries; 83 to temples; 22 to churches and 125 to mosques in Bangalore

A day after Hindutva outfits raised “Hanuman Chalisa Azaan” slogans, the Karnataka government on Tuesday issued a 15-day ultimatum to users of loudspeakers, or public address systems, to obtain permission from the authorities concerned. The state government said that those who did not get permission, then voluntarily remove the loudspeakers.

A total of 301 notices have also been issued against loudspeakers – 59 to pubs, bars and restaurants, 12 to industries, 83 to temples, 22 to churches and 125 to mosques across the city. Some notices have been issued to temples in Malleswaram and elsewhere.

The state police was put on high alert after Hindutva activists started the practice of chanting Hanuman Chalisa whenever azaan is performed from mosques on Monday. Sri Rama Sena founder Pramod Muthalik inaugurated the program at a temple in Mysore district and said that Hanuman Chalisa and good morning: (Morning) Namaz was offered in more than 1,000 temples against azaan in mosques.

He had earlier asked Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and state Home Minister Araga Gyanendra to show courage to act on the lines of Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, who had taken action against unauthorized loudspeakers at religious places and set decibel limits.

Police detained Hindutva activists who were allegedly ready to chant Hanuman Chalisa at a temple in Bengaluru. Security was beefed up across the state to avoid law and order situation.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant also met Bommai at his residence to discuss the ongoing issue, which was started by MNS chief Raj Thackeray in Maharashtra. He has said that the issue of loudspeakers is not a religious issue but a social problem and it should be kept in mind.
