Karnataka: one in two vaccinated in a 15-17 year old group; Coverage touched 80% in some districts. Bengaluru News – Times of India

Bengaluru: Karnataka More than half of the estimated total population of 31.7 lakh adolescents aged 15-17 have been partially vaccinated, with some districts reporting first dose coverage of 80%. The data from the Department of Health and Family Welfare shows that over 17.8 lakh have received the first dose in the age group.
Overall, 11 districts cover between 50% and 60% of the segment with a single dose, while the other 11 fall in the 60% to 70% category. Two districts have covered more than 70% but less than 80%, while only five districts – Yadgir, Kalaburagi, koppal, tumakuru And Bengaluru – Haven’t been able to breach the halfway point yet.

With 18,607 of the 23,115 adolescents targeted, Kodagu has the highest coverage in the state, followed by the second. Uttara Kannada (76%), Udupi (74%), and Haveri (69%). However, these districts have a relatively small number of potential beneficiaries who are eligible to take the shot.
Of the more than 31.7 lakh targeted adolescents, 12.2 lakh or over 38% are from just five districts – Bengaluru, Belagavi, Ballari, Kalaburagi and Mysore. These districts together have given 6.3 lakh vaccine doses, which is more than 55% of the total vaccine doses administered across the state. Bengaluru – which includes the BBMP and Bengaluru Urban – has a target of over five lakh, of which over 2.3 lakh are covered with a single dose.
Under-20 cases Meanwhile, an analysis of age data for January (till 12th) shows that out of 92,182 new cases reported in the state, over 13,000 are below 20 years of age. Of these, 2,475 are in the 0-9 age group while the remaining 10,526 are in the 10-19 age group. Overall, patients in these two age groups accounted for 14% of the total cases in January. Health commissioner D Randeep said, “One reason could be that this category of people are now being vaccinated and those who have symptoms are tested before being vaccinated.” “Also, many of these cases can be triggered by clusters in hostels, colleges etc, given that only schools are closed for now.”
The age group of 20-29 years is the most infected (25,059), followed by the 30-39 group (21,696). The health department, which on Wednesday released a detailed testing protocol for people above the age of 18, has already drawn up a protocol for those below the age of 18. The State COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is in the process of finalizing the details. Randeep said: “Out of the total positive people, the percentage of people in the age group 0-9 is less. We have prepared the triaging protocol for the children and sent it to TAC. We should be able to inform it in a few days so that people can check simple parameters like heartbeat, breathing patterns etc of the children and decide whether to consult a doctor or not. ,
