Laxmi, an accused who had an illicit relationship with Gangaram for years, has been arrested for the murder of his wife, three children and a nephew. She has confessed to the murders and told the police that she did all this out of love and wanted to make Gangaram her ‘husband’.
After coming to know about their affair, the deceased Lakshmi had warned her husband Gangaram to meet the accused again. Accordingly, Gangaram started avoiding him. This irritated Lakshmi and then she planned to destroy her family.
According to police sources, the accused Lakshmi had planned to kill him in December and was waiting for an appropriate time. He had bought a sickle and surprisingly hid it in the dead house. An official said the sickle was kept inside the bathroom of the house.
She came home late on Saturday and soon after the family slept, Lakshmi took out the sickle from the bathroom and then killed the mother first. The accused first attacked her on the head and then killed Lakshmi with a pillow.
Then, nephew Govinda was murdered, and later one after the other, all the children of the house were brutally killed in their sleep. Another officer claimed that the two children pleaded with him not to harm them but in vain. “The accused was completely blind in love,” said an officer.
Thereafter Lakshmi spent the night at home before running away at dawn. After the crime became public in the early hours of Sunday, she left for Mysore and then returned to Mandya.
To prevent the police from suspecting her, Lakshmi was seen weeping loudly in front of the dead bodies on Sunday. He was arrested two days later because the needle of suspicion was pointing at him.
The investigation is on and so far there is no evidence of any other person being involved in the murders.
