Karnataka polls: DK Shivakumar awaits ‘birthday gift’ as Congress takes final call on chief ministerial post

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee chief DK Shivakumar is expecting his special ‘gift’ from the party on his birthday on Monday as he awaits the final call from the high command on who will be the next chief minister of the state.

Shivakumar, who was expected to meet Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and All India Congress Committee (AICC) president M Mallikarjuna Kharge in Delhi on Monday ahead of a final call on the CM post, said he has not yet decided to go to the national capital. , as are the ‘rituals at my house’ for his birthday.

After meeting party legislators in Karnataka in the morning, Shivakumar arrived at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bengaluru for the Congress Legislature Party meeting, before the AICC observers returned to Delhi.

The chief ministerial frontrunner also met hundreds of his supporters who had gathered outside his residence in Bengaluru to wish him a birthday by feeding him a cake.

“We have passed a one-line resolution. We will leave it to the party high command… I have not decided to go to Delhi yet. I have done whatever work I have to do.. I don’t know what gift the high command will give on my birthday but the people of Karnataka have given us the number.’

The Congress leader said, “On my birthday, I have to meet a lot of people… There are rituals at my house on this occasion.”

Shivakumar tweeted a picture of him celebrating his birthday with Siddaramaiah and other party colleagues on Sunday night while maintaining a united front.

Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar are eyeing the chief minister’s post, following a landslide victory in the Karnataka Assembly polls with 135 seats in the 224-member house.
