GST Day will be celebrated in Belagavi on July 1 to mark the completion of five years of the Goods and Services Tax. GST @ 5: Instrument, for all round development of the country The theme adopted by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes is the theme for the event to be held at the KLE Centenary Hall.

On an all-India level, Karnataka region has been ranked second in GST collection of ₹48,440 crore, second only to Mumbai region. Within Karnataka, the Belagavi CGST Commissionerate collected revenue of ₹10,172 crore for the year 2021-22 as compared to ₹7,124 crore in the previous year, which is an increase of 43%.

JSW Steel Ltd. Karnataka has the highest GST paying entity, and had paid GST of ₹3,974 crore for the year 2021-22. The company contributed most of the revenue to the Belagavi Commissionerate, which includes Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal, Vijayanagar, Ballari, Raichur, Yadgir, Gulbarga, Bidar, Vijayapura and Bagalkot districts.

As part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ of the country, Taxpayer Facilitation Centers were set up at GST Bhawan, Club Road, Belagavi and also at Divisional Offices to assist trade and industry.

The July 1 event will highlight the exceptional performance of taxpayers and achievements of Belagavi CGST Commissionerate spread over 12 districts of North Karnataka.

Basavaraj Nelegev, Commissioner, GST, will preside over the programme. KLE Society President Prabhakar Kore will be the Guest of Honour. The Commander of Infantry School, Belagavi, JLW Major General Paramdeep Singh Bajwa will be the Guest of Honour. Vineet Agarwal of JSW Group will deliver the keynote address.

Maximum collection in Karnataka

There are eight GST commissioners in Karnataka covering different jurisdictions.

Of these, five are in Bangalore. The others are in Belagavi, Mysore and Mangaluru.

Among the individual Commissionerates, Belagavi Commissionerate collected the highest GST in 2021-22.

With 12 revenue districts under its jurisdiction and the largest number of taxpayers, the Belagavi GST Commissionerate is the largest in the Karnataka region.
