Karnataka regions with 3 COVID cases will be declared as a cluster: CM

With two cases of the omicron version of COVID-19 detected in Karnataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said any area with three or more cases of coronavirus in the state would be declared a cluster.

“Earlier, we had decided to identify one place as a cluster with 10 COVID-19 cases, but now we have decided to make it at least three,” he told reporters here. The people of that area will be tested, treated and vaccinated.”

He said that he has noticed that cases are being reported in two types of clusters in the state – one in schools and colleges and the other in residential apartments in Bengaluru.

Mr Bommai said that double dose vaccine has been made mandatory for parents of students attending regular classes and this test is mandatory for all inmates and staff of student hostels.

Tests will be mandatory even for people with co-morbidities, the chief minister said, adding that officials have been directed to take foolproof measures.

On the Omicron version, Mr Bommai said the state has received the preliminary report and the health department has been directed to submit a detailed report to the government.

Officials have also been instructed to obtain treatment protocols from countries where Omicron is present.

Mr. Bommai said, “We currently have information that Delta-infected patients are given the same treatment as for Omicron patients. Yet I have asked officials to get treatment protocols that are appropriate for people who contract the Omicron variant. provide treatment.”

He said experts are of the opinion that Omicron is a fast-spreading variant, but it has not shown serious effects.

“However, instructions have been issued to intensify tracing and treatment,” Mr Bommai said.

On Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya’s statement that except Punjab, no state had submitted a report on oxygen deficiency deaths, the CM said, “I have no idea in what context this statement was given.”

When asked about State Health Minister Dr Sudhakar’s statement of 10 South African passengers found missing in the state, Mr Bommai said, “I have not received official information about it. I spoke to the Health Minister about it.” I will.”
