BENGALURU: Several beneficiaries in the state say that they are getting SMS messages wrongly saying that they have taken the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
For example, Narayan Huche From Raichur The district said it was trying a second dose, but with no success. About 10 days back, a message came on his phone, saying that he had been successfully vaccinated.
“I haven’t gotten the second dose yet,” Hooch said. “I missed the due date and the health workers are now refusing to give the dose saying that the data shows that I have already been covered. I was asked to get a letter from Municipal Council Saying that I have not been vaccinated.”
Bidar’s Ilyas is in a similar situation. They have already got the vaccination certificate co-win portal, although he has not taken the second dose. Majid Bilal, who runs Humanity First Foundation, an NGO, said Ilyas approached him to find a solution. “At least four such cases have come before me,” Bilal said.
Kiran Kumar, who received another first dose in Raichur, said he was surprised to see a message saying that he had been fully vaccinated. “When I went to take my second dose with my sister in September, my name did not show up in the database. A health worker said that I was not yet eligible for the second dose. But in the evening of the same day, I got a message saying that I have been fully vaccinated. What should I do now?” he wondered. Raichur District Health Officer Dr. Ramakrishna insisted that the data was not being altered.
Belagavi District Immunization Officer IP Gadad admitted that some people may have received false messages due to a technical snag. He said that there could be around 100 such cases in the district. “We’ll rectify the mistakes and give these people another dose,” Grandmother said.
A health official in Chitradurga district alleged that the officials of the vaccination centers were manipulating the data to achieve the target, while Vinay V. Malge Team Yuva in Bidar, working with the administration on vaccine awareness, said health workers and ASHA workers in primary health centers are under tremendous pressure to achieve the target. “In Bidar alone, wrong updation has happened in over 100 centres. The state should now find out who has actually got the vaccine and who has not,” Malge said.
Akhila Bhat, a health worker from Bengaluru, said that if the same contact number is used, the beneficiaries get false messages. For example, if two people register under one contact number, the system will duplicate the dosage for both, although one may not have taken the second dose.
