Karnataka Textbook Says ‘Savarkar Flyed Out Of Jail Cell On Bulbul’. India News – Times of India

BENGALURU: Controversy continues over textbook revision exercise conducted by Karnataka government, with some sections in a lesson on Vinayak Damodari In a Class 8 Kannada textbook, Savarkar portrayed the criticism as an attempt to “glorify the freedom fighter”.
The textbook in question is a second language book and is not yet available for public viewing on the Karnataka Text Book Society website. The controversial passage read: “There was not even a keyhole in the closet where Savarkari was imprisoned. But, Bulbul birds used to enter the room. Savarkar used to fly on his wings, and visit the motherland every day. This chapter on Savarkar introduces him to the students and is followed by a quote from a travelogue on the Andaman written by a Kannada writer. Katie Gatti,
“As per the Kannada school textbook of the Government of Karnataka, this was the daily routine VD Savarkari From 1911 to 1921,” posted a Twitter user.
When asked about the matter, Made GowdaManaging Director, ktbssaid he was unaware of the content and would need to consult the responsible team before commenting on it.
