Karnataka transport department to app-based aggregators: Stop autos from Wednesday or face 5k fine Bengaluru News – Times of India

BENGALURU: The Transport Department on Tuesday reiterated that app-based aggregators Ola, Uber and Rapido are not authorized to operate autorickshaws unless they obtain a separate three-wheeler licence.
Speaking to reporters after hearing three aggregators, Transport Commissioner THM Kumar said: “It is illegal for them to drive an autorickshaw without obtaining an aggregator license. We have asked them to stop services from Wednesday. If the aggregators submit an application for permission to operate three wheelers on Wednesday, we will send it to the government for further action. The government will decide on the access/facilitation fee.
Following TOI’s October 6 report titled ‘Aggregator auto in city violates minimum fee of Rs 100’, the transport department said aggregator autos are ‘illegal’ and issued notices to firms. The minimum fare fixed by the government for autos is Rs 30 (first 2 km) and Rs 15 per additional kilometer.
Officials said they have issued licenses to these firms to operate only taxis under the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016. However, both Ola and Uber have been providing auto services in violation of the rules. While the cab aggregator licenses of Ola and Uber expired last year, Rapido does not have any such license.
helpline number, 5 thousand fine
Kumar said companies will be fined Rs 5,000 per vehicle for driving autorickshaws without a license from Wednesday. Kumar said they will not penalize auto drivers or passengers. “There was some misunderstanding so some drivers were fined on Monday for driving auto rickshaws through the app,” he said.
He urged the public to register complaints regarding app-based aggregators through WhatsApp numbers (9449863429, 9449863426).
Start strict action: CM
Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said: “I discussed the issue with the Transport Commissioner on Monday. No company should operate without a license. I have instructed him to take strict action.”
Auto union’s seven-day ultimatum to ban aggregators’ apps
A joint committee of 13 autorickshaw unions on Tuesday set a seven-day deadline for banning all aggregator apps. He alleged that politicians and officials have been robbing both drivers and passengers for more than seven years. He demanded that the government bring an app like the Kerala government. He also said that bike taxis have been allowed to ply without any license and urged people not to use any app.
