Floating Theatre: Kashmir has got its first open-air floating theater at the famous Dal Lake. The theater was inaugurated on Friday by Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary, JK.

Sharing a video of the theatre, District Information Centre, Kulgam wrote on Twitter: “Concept is now reality!! Spectacular view of first floating theater and backwater journey.”

This theater is expected to attract more tourists and boost tourism in the Union Territory.

On the occasion, a shikara rally, decorated with bright lights, went through Nehru Park to Pigeon Khana, with local artistes singing and dancing to Kashmiri songs, entertaining the guests, according to ANI.

The Bollywood film ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’ was screened at the theatre, to tourists and residents of the area.

Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary, Tourism and Culture, JK Sarkar said that the theater will benefit tourism in the Union Territory. He said that the concept of open air is very unique, which is not found anywhere in this world.

“This will greatly benefit tourism in Kashmir. Shikaras, houseboat owners, the hotel industry are welcoming tourists with open arms. JK is the safest from Covid point of view as the entire tourism industry has been vaccinated,” he told ANI.

The Secretary informed that various capacity building programs were conducted by the industry on the COVID protocol. “Since winter is coming soon, it is expected that people of the country and the world will visit Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

The news agency also spoke to a houseboat owner who said such programs are good. He said, “If they keep happening, tourism will increase in Kashmir. I urge everyone to visit and enjoy Kashmir. It is extremely safe. This theater is also very nice. There should be more activities like this so that there should be more activities like this.” Tourists should be attracted to this place.” .
