Thiruvananthapuram: Proposed Kazhakoottam Civil station project mired in legal hurdles as a family approached Kerala The High Court claims the ownership of the land where the project is coming up.

When the matter first came up before the first additional sub-court of Thiruvananthapuram, the court ordered it to maintain status quo till further orders. Against this, the state government approached the district court to quash the status quo taking into account the importance of the project.
The counsel for the state government argued before the court that it was revenue land, and the government had all the records to prove it.
However, the family approached the High Court and Pothencode The Block Panchayat filed a petition in the HC to add him as a party to the suit filed by the family. Pothenkode Block Panchayat 97 cent is the custodian of the land where the project is coming up. The panchayat claims that they have all the records to prove that the ownership of the land is with the revenue department.
“The complainants did not add us as a party in the case and that was the reason when we could not submit the record before the court for hearing. This was the reason why the court directed us to maintain status quo,” said an official of Pothenkode block panchayat.
The NES block was abandoned decades ago and now various government offices are functioning in eight old buildings located in the ground. All these buildings are in dilapidated condition and the state government was planning to demolish the old one and build a 10-storey building to accommodate all the government offices including Pothenkode block panchayat and a court complex.
The offices of Irrigation Department, Dairy Development Department and Scheduled Caste Department will be shifted to Pothencode Civil Station due to security issues as the existing buildings are in pathetic condition.
Vacancies to Child Development Department and Veterinary Department and Public Works Department (Public Works Department) was demolishing dilapidated buildings for construction.
