Kejriwal to announce another pre-poll ‘guarantee’ in Gujarat on Wednesday

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be on a one-day visit to Gujarat on Wednesday, during which he will announce another Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) “guarantee” for the people of the poll-bound state, a senior leader said. Tuesday

AAP convener Kejriwal was in Gujarat, where assembly elections are due at the end of the year last weekend, and is frequently visiting various districts as part of a strategy to position his party as a power contender in the state. The ruling BJP and the opposition Congress have been the major political forces.

Kejriwal will be on a tour of Gujarat tomorrow (Wednesday). He will announce a new ‘guarantee’ for the people of Gujarat at a town hall event in Ahmedabad. The benefits for Gujarat’s “2.5 crore people” would be announced ahead of Raksha Bandhan (to be celebrated on Thursday), but did not elaborate further.

People are very excited about the free electricity guarantee announced by Kejriwal (during his earlier visit). Even BJP workers are excited about it and are asking why the BJP government has not given them (people of Gujarat) so much relief. Referring to a petition filed in the Supreme Court on pre-poll announcements by political parties.

The AAP chief had visited Jamnagar and Bodeli in Chhota Udaipur during his two-day visit last Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, he announced guarantees for Gujarat’s tribals, including the implementation of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) (PESA) Act that gives gram sabhas (village councils) special powers in managing natural resources .

Kejriwal has also given a guarantee of Rs 3,000 per month allowance to unemployed youth and till they get a job. The Delhi Chief Minister has promised to involve the business community in the decision-making process of the government and end the ‘raid raj’. His first pre-poll promise was to provide free electricity. In an announcement made in Surat last month, Kejriwal said that his party would give free electricity up to 300 units per month to the people of Gujarat, if voted to power in the state. This soap is already being provided to the people of Delhi and Punjab ruled by Aam Aadmi Party.
