Kelechi Ihenacho sets Nigeria on fire for AFCON’s win against Egypt – Henry Club

The Leicester striker scored the winning goal in the first half, pivoting excellently on the edge of the box and firing his half-volley high into the net.

Given his form in the English Premier League this season, many expected Mohamed Salah to present something special in his team’s opening group game.

But Nigeria managed to keep the Egyptian captain calm for most of the match, with the 29-year-old scoring only one goal.

The Liverpool star may have done better with his chance to play from behind the defence, for 20 minutes, but saw his weak attempt saved by goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.

Egypt finished second behind Nigeria for most of the match, with the Super Eagles looking far more energetic and creative.

Wilfred Nadi was particularly impressive for Nigeria, marshalling the midfield effectively and crushing potential Egyptian attacks.

The eventual winners could have made their lives more comfortable, but missed many opportunities to increase their lead.

Egypt, who have won the tournament on seven previous occasions, will return in their next match against Guinea-Bissau while Nigeria will play Sudan.
