Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan says Student Police Cadet Scheme will be implemented in all schools in the state

Pinarayi Vijayan appreciated the contribution of the scheme in the cultural and educational sectors of the state. He also highlighted the role played by cadets in checking drug and substance abuse among students.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the Student Police Cadet (SPC) scheme will be implemented in all the schools of the state. He was speaking after virtually inaugurating the expansion of SPC units in 165 more schools here on Friday. With this the number of schools with SPC has gone up to 968.

Mr Vijayan said that the scheme would be expanded to all schools in a phased manner. From 100 schools in 2010, the scheme is now operational in about 1,000 schools. He said it was a great achievement.

The Chief Minister appreciated the contribution of the scheme in the cultural and educational sectors of the state. He also highlighted the role played by cadets in checking drug and substance abuse among students.

He said that drug mafia is active in many places. When the schools were open, the SPC did a good job in curbing the influence of such elements. He said that those working against the national interest will try their best to stop the growth of physically and mentally healthy generation.

The Chief Minister said that after the decision of the Central Government to extend the SPC scheme across the country, it has now become a presence in many states. Its biggest advantage was that a disciplined group of people could be nurtured, he said.
