Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Tuesday that a detailed discussion would be held regarding handing over the Waqf Board appointments to the Public Service Commission. The Chief Minister said this in a meeting with the representatives of Muslim organization Samasta.

The Chief Minister also informed that the Waqf Board took the decision to hand over the appointments to the commission and he informed the government. This was not a directive of the government and the government is not adamant on implementing it.

Vijayan said the current situation will continue till a final decision is taken.

Samasta leaders also expressed concern over the propaganda happening in social media

Non-Muslims will be posted in the Waqf Board. The Chief Minister said that the allegation is baseless.

Onambali Muhammad Faizi, secretary of the Sunni Yuvajan Sangham, said, “Everyone demanded the withdrawal of the law, leaving the Waqf Board appointments to the Kerala Public Service Commission. The Chief Minister assured that more discussions would be held before enacting the law. We are hopeful, the rest will be discussed and decided by Samasta’s leaders and scholars.

Leader of the Opposition VD Satishan said the opinion of the Congress-led UDF, especially the Muslim League, proves to be correct. “We UDF members had said in the assembly that it should not be implemented. The CPIM tried to give a communal color to the Muslim League. What is communal in this? The CM and the state secretary of CPIM should give an explanation,” Satishan said.

Satishan said that when the move was taken to send the appointments of Devaswom Board to PSC, he opposed it as it is not right for PSC to send letters to a particular community. Devaswom Recruitment Board was formed. Similarly, the UDF has demanded the formation of a Waqf Recruitment Board.
