Kerala Congress chief denies writing letter to Rahul Gandhi over “pro-RSS remarks”

Referring to reports in a section of the media that he had written to Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Sudhakaran said that people who know nothing about the organizational matters of the Congress were behind such fake stories and if he wanted to send a letter, he would have sent it. Leader of Opposition in the state assembly VD Satheesan and former Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala also strongly criticized the media over these reports and extended full support to Sudhakaran.

He said “false stories” were being run to divert people’s attention and save the LDF government, which was facing attack on various issues including rising prices, letter controversy, illegal appointments in universities, etc.

Addressing reporters in Ernakulam, Mr. Satheesan said the report on the letter, which appeared in a section of the media, was “fake news created out of thin air”.

“No such letter was sent. Reports also said that the letter contained references to the opposition leader, which has not actually been sent by the KPCC chief. I used to speak to him at least four to five times daily. If you (media) don’t get any news when you wake up in the morning, you should go for some other work.”

Defending Leader of the Opposition Sudhakaran, he said he is a leader who has always maintained a secular stand and has already clarified that his controversial remarks during the speech were a “slip of the tongue”.

He said the state and national leadership have accepted his explanation and there is no difference of opinion in the party as of now.

Chennithala also came out in support of Mr Sudhakaran, saying he was secular in origin and did not need a certificate from the CPI(M) or the BJP to prove his secularism.

He also said that there was no need for Sudhakaran to resign as the party’s state unit chief.

Mr Sudhakaran on Monday said India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was a great leader who showed his “generosity” in inducting RSS leader Syama Prasad Mukherjee into his cabinet.

He also said last week that he had sent his men to protect RSS ‘shakhas’ in Kannur district decades ago.
