Kerala: More than 80% of eligible adults received first dose of vaccine: CM

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said that over 80% of the population eligible for vaccination in the state have been given the first dose of the COVID vaccine.

In a press conference, the Chief Minister said that more than 32% of the population eligible for vaccination have received both the shots of the vaccine. Vijayan said his government’s effort is to ensure that all people above the age of 18 are given their first dose of vaccine by September 30 and both doses are given in 2-3 months’ time.

On the status of Kovid in the state, the Chief Minister said that there has been an increase in the number of people reaching hospitals of late after getting infected and this trend is not encouraging or encouraging.

Vijayan said that a large percentage of people who died due to COVID were illiterate and since there were a large number of persons above 60 years of age who were not yet vaccinated, they must necessarily get both doses of the vaccine. .

Despite vaccination, he said, people were getting infected and although such individuals may not be seriously affected by the virus, they can spread it to other people who do not get vaccinated.

Therefore, those who have been vaccinated should also follow the COVID protocols like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing, the Chief Minister said. He said that the sero-prevalence study being carried out to assess the extent of infection in the state is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Today, Kerala reported 17,681 new COVID cases and 208 deaths.
