Kerala:

An investigation into a theft case has helped the Kerala Police crack a case related to the murder of a traditional Mysore traditional healer. The healer, Shaba Sharif, was allegedly murdered two years ago by a local businessman for trying to obtain a secret medicinal formula to treat piles.

Capancherry businessman Shabin Ashraf had recently filed a theft complaint against some of his associates, but subsequent interrogation revealed the heinous torture and murder of a Mysore healer with his help by the businessman, police said. he said.

After being kidnapped from Mysore in August 2019, 60-year-old Shaba Sharif was brutally tortured while imprisoned for a year at Mr Ashraf’s residence in Nilambur for a “secret thread”.

Malappuram Superintendent of Police Sujit Das said on Wednesday that the victim’s body parts were cut into pieces and thrown into a river.

He told reporters, “Four people, including Shabin Ashraf, were arrested and produced before a court. Earlier, we contacted the Mysore police and collected information about the deceased person. His family went missing in 2019. Complaint was lodged.”

Based on visuals collected from pen drives handed over to investigators by one of the accused, the police can confirm that it was the same person who was killed in captivity.

“In the video, Shaba Sharif was seen chained. It is said to have been recorded when she was held hostage in Ashraf’s house,” he said.

Based on the statements of his co-accused, the officer said Mr Ashraf had planned to start a clinic after receiving a secret medicine for hemorrhoids from a Mysore healer and making a huge profit.

He also promised a share of the profits to the co-accused, but later differences arose between them over some financial matters.

This prompted the co-accused to commit a burglary at Mr Ashraf’s house on 24 April. The gang fled with a laptop and several valuables including cash, following which a police complaint was lodged by the businessman.

Later, Thangalakathu Ashraf, a former accomplice and an accused in the theft case, was arrested from Wayanad district.

Recently, the other three accused had created a ruckus by attempting to set themselves ablaze in front of the secretariat in the state capital, claiming that they were being threatened by the businessman.

The trio were arrested and handed over to the Malappuram Police in connection with the theft and further interrogation revealed the mystery behind the murder of the Mysore doctor.

“This is one of the rarest of rare cases and challenging for investigators,” the superintendent of police said.
