Kerala State Yoga Olympiad begins

The State Yoga Olympiad began on Sunday at the Regional Telecom Training Center Kaimanam.

Organized by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the two-day event aims to promote yoga for improving physical, emotional and mental health among students, teachers and practitioners.

The Olympiad was inaugurated by District Panchayat President D. Suresh Kumar. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the importance of yoga and called for its inclusion in the curriculum.

GS Pradeep, Vice-Chairperson, Waylopilly Sanskriti Bhavan, who was the chief guest, said that all the participants would benefit from the program, irrespective of success or failure. Jayaprakash RK, Director, SCERT, who presided over the inauguration, spoke on ‘Yoga for Health and Harmony’. Samagra Shiksha, Kerala State Project Director Supriya AR spoke.

232 students from 14 districts of the state have registered for the competition. After the inauguration, the participants performed various yoga techniques and artistic yoga dance.

Mridula, Arya KP, Sivaganga TK and Revathi Rajesh who participated in National Yoga Olympiad 2019 were felicitated.

General Education Minister V. Shivankutty also reached the venue to meet and interact with the participants. The Minister said that Yoga is not only an exercise but also a lifestyle. More than physical conditioning, it was aimed at mental rejuvenation. He also witnessed the artistic yoga performance put up by the students.
