Thiruvananthapuram:

A 19-year-old youth was allegedly stabbed to death by the owner of a house, which he broke into the wee hours of Wednesday, police said.

The accused later surrendered at the nearby police station and admitted that he had killed the youth on suspicion of being a thief.

Anish George, a native of Petta in the heart of the city, was murdered by Lalu, who also hails from the same place.

According to the accused, the shocking incident happened around 3.30 am.

Lalu said that he woke up to some noise in a room on the first floor of the house and found George there.

Mistaking him as a thief, he immediately attacked the person with a sharp weapon.

Later he reached the nearby police station and narrated the whole incident and surrendered.

Police said though the youth was admitted to the Medical College Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

A police officer said that the investigation is on and all aspects will be probed.

“It is a murder…the investigation is in the preliminary stage. We suspect that some personal issues may have led to the crime. We can reveal the details only after thorough investigation,” he told reporters.

Asked about the motive for the murder, he said it was too early or too early to confirm any aspect, adding that the accused is under police surveillance.
