ThiruvananthapuramSahad and Jiya Paval – a transgender couple in Kozhikode – are set to become parents after Sahad, a trans person stopped her transformation process to become pregnant. After long discussions and deliberations, the couple is now expecting their first child in March. Sahad (23) and Jia (21), a trans woman, have been living together for the last three years.
Sahad is an accountant by profession while Jia is a dance teacher. They have both gone through hormone therapy as part of their transition process. “When we started living together three years ago, we thought that our life should be different from other transgenders. Most of the transgender couples are ostracized by the society as well as their respective families. We wanted a child so that Be a person even after our days.” This world is over,” Jiya said.
Sahad, meanwhile, decided to become a man post-childbirth and the process began when her ‘breasts’ were removed some time ago. “Our journey to become a trans man and a trans woman will continue. I am continuing my hormone treatment. Six months or a year after delivery, Sahad will also start treatment to become a trans man,” Jia said.
The delivery will take place at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Kozhikode. The question of breastfeeding has been dismissed. Instead, they will depend on the breast milk bank attached to the hospital.
