The Kia EV6 scored 90 percent in adult occupant protection, 87 percent in child occupant protection and 64 percent in weak road user protection. The car scored 88 percent in the Safety Assist system on board, earning a high safety rating overall.
The Kia EV6 has been crash tested by Australia NCAP (ANCAP) and the electric crossover has received a full five star safety rating. The all-electric offering scored 34.48 out of 38 available in Adult Occupant Protection and 42.96 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection. The tests further concluded that road user safety was rated at 64 percent while safety assist features were rated as high at 88 percent. The announcement comes a few days before the model will go on sale in India and adds to the strong suite of offerings going forward. Note, the Global NCAP Crash Test Program is separate from the Australia NCAP Test Program. ANCAP conducts Full Front Offset Test, Full Width Frontal Test and Side Impact Test.
ANCAP said that all single and dual motor variants of the Kia EV6 were covered by a five-star safety rating. The passenger compartment remained stable in the Frontal Offset (MPDB) test. Dummy readings for the driver indicated minor protection for the driver’s chest and lower legs. Meanwhile, dummy readings for the front passenger indicated adequate protection of the lower legs. The test results further concluded that the protection for all other important areas of the body is good for both the driver and the passenger.
In the full-width frontal test, protection for the driver’s dummy was rated as good for all critical areas of the body, while protection was rated as adequate for the rear passenger’s chest. The car provided good protection to all other important areas of the body for the driver and rear passenger.
In the side impact test and oblique pole test, the EV6 provided decent protection to all the important body areas, with the car scoring maximum marks. The center airbag also helped protect against occupant-to-occupant interaction in a side impact crash and provided good head protection for the front seat occupants. Minimal travel was also observed in distant impact tests, with the rider moving from one side of the vehicle to the other.
With regards to child occupant protection, the Kia EV6 delivered decent protection in the frontal offset test for children aged between six and 10 years. The 10-year-old dummy’s head received modest protection in a side impact test, while the dummy’s body was rated as “good”. The EV6 comes with ISOFix anchorage and top tether anchorage for all rear seating positions.
Speaking about the EV6’s crash test results, ANCAP’s Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hurweg, said, “The Kia EV6 is equipped with a range of collision avoidance systems in today’s five-star cars, and has created a niche for itself.
