King Charles was photographed during the coronation ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Britain’s longest-reigning Queen Elizabeth II died in Scotland on Thursday at the age of 96. According to a Buckingham Palace statement, the Queen died peacefully surrounded by her family at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Following her death, Britain’s new King Charles III said in a statement that the passing of his “dear mother” the Queen was the “greatest moment of grief” for him and all members of the royal family. “We deeply mourn the passing of a cherished sovereign and a very dear mother,” it read. To pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, many users on social media are sharing unseen and rare photos of the monarch with her family. Meanwhile, a childhood photo of 73-year-old King Charles III is going viral on social media.

Reportedly, the picture of King Charles was clicked during the coronation ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II back in 1953. The Queen was only 27 when she ascended the throne of the British Empire, meanwhile King Charles was around four. In the viral picture, a much younger version of Charles is extremely bored as he stands between Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (his grandmother) and Princess Margaret (his aunt). Keeping his hand on his face, King Charles stares at her as the camera captures her. The picture of King Charles first surfaced on the internet in 2019.

It was shared online by the Royal Collection Trust to mark the 66th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. According to People’s report, the 1953 ceremony began at 11.15 a.m. and lasted about three hours. Notably, King Charles became the first child to see his mother’s coronation as a coronation. At the time, King Charles’ sister, Princess Anne, was only 2 years old and was considered too young to attend the ceremony. Reportedly, King Charles received a special child-friendly invitation to the ceremony.
