Kiren Rijiju takes charge of Ministry of Earth Sciences

New Delhi: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju officially took charge of the Ministry of Earth Sciences on Friday.

Addressing the media after taking charge, Rijiju highlighted the important role of the ministry in realizing the vision of India becoming a developed nation by 2047. He stressed on his priority to implement the Deep Ocean Mission, a flagship initiative of the Prime Minister, which aims to search for valuable polymetallic nodules. Minerals.

He said that every decision taken by the Ministry would be centered around the welfare of the common man.

Rijiju later chaired a brief presentation by senior officials of the ministry, including the India Meteorological Department (IMD), and announced that in the coming days, he would work to recalibrate the entire “weather forecasting system”.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences, responsible for formulating policies and implementing programs related to Earth systems, oceans and weather, plays a key role in addressing environmental challenges and harnessing the potential of natural resources.

On Thursday, Rijiju was stripped of the Department of Law and Justice and given the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Arjun Ram Meghwal was assigned independent charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to his existing portfolios in place of Rijiju.
