Keyway Motors may showcase a new maxi-scooter and 500cc cruiser motorcycle for India.

Keyway Motors, a part of Zhejiang Qianjiang Motorcycle Group, is coming to India from Hungary on May 17, 2022, possibly with a new maxi-scooter and 500cc cruiser motorcycle for the Indian market. Chinese-Hungarian two-wheeler makers come to our shores as an associate company benelli group, which is owned by the same parent company, and will be operated by Vikas Jhabakh, MD, Benelli India. Kiway Motors also exports its two wheelers to some other Asian countries such as Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Traditionally, Keyway Motors deals in two-wheelers under the 250 cc category, however, the company recently announced its intention to develop motorcycles with higher displacement, especially in the 500 cc segment. It is reported that the upcoming middle-weight bike will be based on Benelli 502c, with a change in its output and a suspension to differentiate it from its sibling. The company will also share components with Benelli, which already has a well-established network in the country, keeping the price in mind. We expect Keeway’s new 500 cc motorcycle to be priced similar to the Benelli 502C, which will cost around ₹ 5 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Then there will be a 270cc maxi-scooter based on the Keeway GT270, but possibly with a different name for the Indian market.

Then there is the possibility of a 270cc maxi-scooter based on the Keyway GT270 which will also be offered, but will likely have a different name for the Indian market. To put things in perspective, Kyway’s maxi-scooter doesn’t have a rival in the Indian market per se, but offers more power than the Yamaha Aerox 155, and will carry a lower price tag than the BMW C400 GT. The Keyway 270 cc maxi-scooter is likely to come with a 278.2 cc, Piaggio-sourced liquid-cooled engine that is good enough to produce 19 bhp @ 6,500 rpm and 22.5 Nm @ 6,000 rpm, mated to a CVT unit . It will sit on a KYB upright fork with 35mm of travel, while the rear sits on a KYB dual shock set-up with braking being handled by Je Juan calipers with 240mm discs and ABS.
