Off Road, a group show of seven actors, urges viewers to look at life from a different perspective

Two wildly colored fiberglass sculptures by Regunadhan center on ‘Off Road’, a group show at the Durbar Hall Art Gallery. Both the sculptures seem to be an artistic recapitulation of the experience of the lockdown. where a sculpture, titled ‘Work@Home’, depicts a pregnant woman, dressed in a flashy canary-yellow gown, with household items placed between her folds of clothing at her feet The second idol, ‘Dehydrated’, is of a male. , in a pointy red and white dress, his palm on the forehead, a sign of fatigue.

All 40 works on display reflect the artists’ individual styles and emotions. “We named the show ‘Off Road’ because the work is a deviation from the ‘normal’ way of looking at things,” says Srikanth Nettoor, one of the seven actors who participated. “The idea is to lead the audience to new perspectives,” he says.

Most of the works on display are recent. From the busy frames of Binu Kottakkara, which depict various scenes of a landscape, to the metal-embossed works of Santhan Velayudhana, the works are diverse in style and aesthetic.

Srikanth Nettoor paints the moon with a mystical touch – crescent-shaped, in charcoal brown and dry pastel, with the figure of a woman on it. Anil B Krishna’s brightly colored canvases speak of his visual language while Sreejith Pottekkat’s fascination for wildlife is reflected in a range of his works.

BG Bhaskar portrays supernatural scenarios that take the audience to a fictional world.

The show is going on till 31st July at Durbar Hall Art Gallery.
