Kohli, du Plessis power RCB to 8-wicket win against MI in TATA IPL 2023

It was a dream start for Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 16th edition of the Tata IPL 2023 opener as they registered an 8-wicket win against Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 2.

After winning the toss, RCB captain du Plessis decided to bowl first against Mumbai Indians.

Rohit’s squad got off to a bad start against the RCB bowling attack as their opening batting collapsed. All the three MI openers – Rohit Sharma (1), Ishan Kishan (10) and Cameron Green (5) were dismissed within 6 overs.

Soon his star batsman Suryakumar Yadav went straight to the pavilion after scoring just 15 runs. However, Tilak Verma kept his cool and with time he picked up the pace and scored 84 off 46 balls. Apart from this, none of the MI batsmen appeared in form. In the end, Mumbai Indians were able to score only 171 runs after losing 7 wickets.

Karn Sharma took two wickets for RCB, while Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, Akash Deep, Harshal Patel and Michael Bracewell grabbed one wicket each.

Chasing a target of 172, RCB opener Virat Kohli (82) and team captain Faf du Plessis (73) dominated the game from the start. Although du Plessis was dismissed in the 15th over, with sensational hits from Glenn Maxwell (12), RCB won the match against MI by 8 wickets in just 16.2 overs.

For Mumbai Indians, only Cameron Green and Arshad Khan managed to take one wicket each.

On April 3, Chennai Super Kings will take on Lucknow Super Giants in Chennai. MS Dhoni’s CSK have already lost their first match of the season against Gujarat Titans.
