Kolkata: No approval given for modification of structure inside heritage building, says vice-chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India]Nov 9 (ANI): Amid controversy over alleged tampering of the heritage building structure of Rabindra Bharati University located at Jorasakho in north Kolkata, university vice-chancellor Sabyasachi Basu Roy on Wednesday said that no administrative approval was given for an amendment. Speaking to ANI, Rabindra Bharati University Vice-Chancellor Sabyasachi Basu Roy said, “We are aware of it. For the past few months, pressure was being built up and some people tried to forcibly enter the campus. We informed the Chief Minister and the Education Minister but no solution has been found so far.”

The VC further said, ‘I am not ready to speak politically but those who have done so said that they are from the ruling party. The room is part of the heritage. No administrative approval was obtained prior to the renewal. ,

The BJP alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress was tampering with the heritage of Bengal.

Condemning the activities, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said, “Rabindranath Tagore is the soul and pride of Bengal. It is a heritage building. We are not surprised as TMC feels that entire Bengal is their property.
