Kovid-19: 18,466 new cases were reported in Maharashtra

Maharashtra’s active COVID-19 cases crossed the 65,000-mark on Tuesday, with the state registering 18,466 infections and taking the active case tally to 66,308.

While 20 deaths in the last 24 hours took the cumulative toll to 1,41,573, 4,558.

With 75 new infections – 40 from Mumbai alone – the Omicron tally stood at 653, of which 259 have been discharged so far.

At a new one-day high, Mumbai recorded 10,606 COVID-19 cases, taking the city’s active case tally to 47,476. The death toll rose to 16,381 due to the two deaths.

With the state and the city reporting the highest number of cases in the country, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar hinted at the possibility of a lockdown if the daily jump crosses the 20,000-mark.

Ms Pednekar said the city was also prepared to face a “tsunami” of coronavirus cases and that liquid oxygen plants, oxygen beds and jumbo care centers were ready.

Pune district recorded over 1,450 cases – of which over 1,100 were from Pune city alone – and six deaths. There are around 5,000 active cases in the district.

Following the sharp increase, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that there will be no physical session for the rest of January for students of classes 1 to 8.

Mr Pawar, who held a review meeting with leaders and officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), said the civic body will now start paying a fine of Rs 500 for people not wearing masks and Rs 1,000 for spitting in a public place. will do it. ,

Officials said the state’s recovery rate has risen to 96.86 per cent. The positivity rate is 9.68% and the recovery rate is 65,18,916.

Revised rules for international travelers

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday night issued revised rules for international passengers arriving at the airport in view of the rapid spread of the Omicron variant.

All of them will have to undergo Rapid RTPCR Test. If positive, a normal RTPCR test will be done for confirmation.

If the test is negative, the passenger will be allowed to go for home quarantine for seven days. In case of a patient with positive symptoms, he/she will be admitted to Seven Hills Hospital, Bombay Hospital or Breach Candy Hospital.

If the patient is asymptomatic, the civic body’s BKC or Kanjur Marg Jumbo COVID-19 Center or private hotel designated for quarantine can be chosen.
