Kovid: DDMA will no longer implement the Disaster Management Act as the infection has reduced

As the cases of Kovid in Delhi continue to decrease, the disaster management body of the city will no longer issue formal orders under the Disaster Management Act regarding the prevention of COVID.

After two years, the Central Government had already repealed the provisions of the Disaster Management Act to prevent the corona virus epidemic. However, the norms of face masks and social distancing will have to be followed.

Last month, DDMA lifted all COVID restrictions in view of the significant improvement in the COVID situation in the city. However, wearing of masks in public places including buses and metro trains continued.

Recently, the DDMA had also decided not to impose any penalty for not wearing face masks in public places in the national capital.

With the increase in the number of COVID cases due to the Omicron variant in December last year, the Delhi government imposed several restrictions. The restrictions were gradually lifted once the situation returned to normalcy and finally all restrictions were lifted from February 28.

Delhi recorded 114 fresh Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 0.71%, while zero deaths were reported due to the viral disease on Saturday. Amidst the decline in daily cases, the number of patients living in home isolation in Delhi has also come down significantly.

In a letter to the authorities, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) cited a recent decision of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to invoke the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 for prevention of COVID-19. There is no need. Measures in view of the overall improvement in the situation.

“The DDMA, in its meeting on March 31, chaired by the Lieutenant Governor, unanimously agreed that as per the instructions received from the Ministry of Home Affairs, no formal orders under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 shall be issued from now on,” the letter said. “
