As the COVID-19 vaccination for children in the age group of 15-18 is set to begin on Monday, centers in Delhi are gearing up to start vaccinating the young population. The cohort size for vaccination in this category is 1 million, an official document showed, citing data from the Registrar General of India.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain was quoted by news agency PTI as saying, “We can vaccinate three lakh people daily. Presently 1-1.5 lakh people are being vaccinated daily. We can increase the capacity if needed.” ”

On vaccination of children, he said, “We can vaccinate them in an interval of 10 to 15 days.”

“We can vaccinate three lakh people daily. Presently, 1-1.5 lakh people are being vaccinated on a daily basis. We can increase the capacity if required. With regard to immunization of children, we will give them 10 to 10 vaccinations. One can vaccinate within a period of 15 days,” Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain told reporters earlier in the day.

Registration starts from today

To register for the vaccination, adolescents in this age group can avail walk-in registration when immunizations begin from January 3, or register themselves on Co-Vin starting today.

Coin platform head Dr RS Sharma had earlier said that apart from Aadhaar and other national identity cards, children can use their 10th class ID cards for registration.

Covaxin is to be administered

In order to kick-start the vaccination process, the vaccination centers in the city are taking necessary steps including depositing doses to keep pediatricians on standby.

As per the official guidelines, Covaxin will be given to youth in this age group.

Officials from various hospitals in Delhi, which are among the facilities hosting immunization centers since the exercise began on January 16, said the infrastructure is ready to deliver Covid vaccine shots to children.

A large number of schools and other educational institutions have been used as COVID vaccination centers and arrangements are being made there as well.

Private hospitals have also geared up for this phase of exercise.
