Shivamogga/Bengaluru: Senior BJP MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister KS Eshwarappa Fresh controversy erupted on Friday, saying they would retrieve 36,000 temples that were destroyed by Muslim rulers to build mosques over them.
Eshwarappa said, “All the 36,000 temples will be restored peacefully as per the court’s decision, without any struggle, following the law.” “let them [Muslims] Build a mosque somewhere else. We cannot allow them to build mosques on top of their temples.
Eshwarappa had recently resigned from the post of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister after being accused of abetment to suicide in the death of contractor Santosh Patil.
His remarks on temples came amid the ongoing queues Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi and Shahi Idgah Mosque in Mathura.
On 21 April, a temple-like structure was discovered beneath an old mosque on the outskirts of Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district, sparking a temple-mosque dispute.
