KSLSA to hold meeting today to consider recommendation for extension of 50% relaxation period

The KSLSA will now consider recommending an extension of the grace period as per the demand of the public and the Bengaluru City Traffic Police, as the Special Commissioner (Traffic) has written to the KSLSA seeking extension of the grace period for two more weeks, They said.

Justice Veerappa said that the KSLSA had submitted a proposal to give exemption three months back, but the government was initially hesitant to accept the proposal as the finance department had raised objections.

He said, ‘After a lot of effort, we were able to persuade the government.’

Although a similar relaxation was offered in the state of Telangana, the public response was not of the same magnitude as in Karnataka, Justice Veerappa said, pointing out that the media had played an important role in creating awareness.

It would have taken years for the police to recover the fine amount, which has now been paid by the public in just nine days, he said, adding that the KSLSA would hold a meeting on Tuesday to decide on the request for extension. ,

64.14 lakh cases disposed

He said that a total of 64,13,608 lakh cases, including 1.87 lakh cases pending in courts, 62.26 lakh pre-litigation cases (which include 52.11 lakh traffic cases) were amicably disposed of during the Lok Adalat.

During the court, 670 matrimonial cases were settled amicably and 222 couples were reunited.
