Kurukshetra University in Haryana first to implement NEP, admission begins in university as per NEP 2020 – Times of India

Kurukshetra: Kurukshetra University is the first university in Haryana to implement the National Policy on Education (NEP), 2020.

The online admission process for undergraduate programs under NEP, 2020 will begin from August 3 at the Institute of Integrated and Honor Studies (IIHS), Kurukshetra University (KU).

A KU official said a large number of students are expected to participate in the race for 1,400 seats for admission to the humanities, science, commerce, tourism, computer, home science and five-year integrated programs at IIHS and NEP. All affiliated colleges of KU from session 2023. “Under the leadership of Haryana Chief Minister and Governor, the undergraduate programs as per the NEP have been designed after long deliberations by the education experts of KU and other important stakeholders. NEP frees up education and makes education student centric. Students will be given the option of a 4-year graduation degree in Honors and Research and will have the option to not only go for a dual-degree but also choose courses in all subjects, for example, a science student in the humanities and science courses and now vice versa. Students will be required to do a minimum of 4 credits of skill courses, 12 credits in subject specific skills and 4 credits in life skills,” said Professor Somnath Sachdeva, Vice Chancellor, KU.

“The policy focuses on conceptual learning, critical thinking and holistic development of students in both academic and non-academic areas. Digital platforms of UGC, mobile apps, satellite based TV channels, online courses, MOOC (SWAYAM) modules and libraries equipped with ICT Incentives are also provided to acquire knowledge from the Department of Higher Education headed by ACS Anand Mohan Sharan is providing all possible assistance to KU in the implementation of NEP 2020,” Sachdeva further said.

Prof Som Nath said, “Community development, human values, ethics in many fields, constitutional values ​​and service to humanity have also been integrated in the UG curriculum. There are many entry and exit options available to the students. A student can earn credits by completing a course and these will be credited to the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) account. One can transfer these credits if one decides to switch colleges. If a student ever drops out for any reason, these credits will remain intact and he or she can later come back and pick up where the student left off.

Professor Manjula Choudhary, KU Dean Academic Affairs said, “The component of internship is an essential part of the curriculum framework. Students will have the option to write their exams and assignments in Hindi. With ABC, institutions will calculate the total credits earned by students and put it into their degree. Students will also have the option of direct admission to PhD after 4-year graduation degree (Hons & Research), provided their CGPA is 7.5 and above.
