KWC prepares draft for act amendment

Kerala Commission for Women Chairperson P. Satheedevi has said that the draft proposal to amend the Kerala Commission for Women (KWC) Act will be submitted to the government without any delay.

She was speaking recently after the second round of discussions on drafting the Act.

Ms. Satidevi said that various sections of the Act are being considered to be amended to include punitive powers, their limits and nature of complaints for effective execution of the decisions of the Commission.

Advocate General K Gopalakrishna Kurup participated in the Expert Committee discussion on the subjects to be included in the Amendment Bill, held at the Government Guest House Library Hall in Ernakulam and simultaneously online; Director General of Prosecution TA Shaji; Former Law Secretary BG Harendranath; Supreme Court lawyer PV Dinesh; Alexander Jacob, former DGP and first director of the commission; The members of the commission are MS Thara, EM Radha, Shiji Shivaji and Shahida Kamal; Member Secretary P. Usharani; Director Shaji Sugunan, and Law Officer P. Girija.

Standing Counsel for the Commission in the High Court A. Parvati Menon presented the draft recommendations. The first round of talks was held in January.
