to oppose Lakhimpur Kheri violenceThe Indian National Congress (INC) has asked its state unit chiefs to observe a fast of silence from 10 am to 1 pm outside the respective Raj Bhavans and central government offices on Monday.

The party is demanding the dismissal of Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra and the arrest of his son Ashish in this case.

This comes after members of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) staged a protest in Delhi on Saturday.

The protesters, led by IYC national president Srinivas Biwi, gathered at Krishna Menon Marg on Sunehri Bagh Road to march towards Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence, but were stopped by police, who put up barricades at the protest site.

Demanding justice for the farmers killed in Lakhimpur Kheri, the protesters demanded the immediate arrest of Mishra’s son.

Some protesters also climbed the police barricades and raised anti-Centre slogans and demanded the sacking of Mishra.

IYC leaders said the protesters also tried to burn effigies of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, but the police did not allow this to happen.

“Today is the sixth day of the massacre of farmers in Lakhimpur, but till now the Union Minister of State for Home has not been sacked. By supporting the accused and the killer, the BJP has made it clear that they are the enemies of the farmers.” Said Srinivas BV.

“We are demanding that the minister of state should be sacked immediately and main accused Ashish Mishra should be arrested,” he said.

The top leadership of the Congress is scheduled to meet on October 16 to consider the current political situation, including the Lakhimpur violence, and to take a decision on the organizational elections at the party’s working committee meeting.

“I have met the families of the victims and they claim that the minister’s son was present at the spot. Eyewitnesses have also said so. Why should we not believe them,” she said.

The Congress questioned the government for not arresting the minister’s son who is an alleged accused in the incident and demanded the minister’s resignation.

“The victims’ families are demanding that the minister should resign. They want justice, not money,” he said.

However, Ashish Mishra denied the allegations of SKM and said that he was not present at the place where the incident took place.
