Top Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen suffered a straight-game defeat at the hands of Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus in men’s singles to be knocked out in the first round at the HiLo Open badminton tournament in Germany on Tuesday. The 21-year-old Sen, the World Championship bronze winner and Commonwealth Games champion, went down 12-21, 5-21 in a first-round match that lasted just 27 minutes. It was a poor performance from the seventh seeded Indian as he lost to his opponent. Sen struggled throughout the match.

In the first game, Sen lost 2-2 and Angus easily took a 1-0 lead, leaving the Indian far behind.

The second game was even worse for Sen as he allowed Angus to take nine straight points in a leg to win the match.

In mixed doubles, Indian pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto lost 13-21, 12-21 to Chinese pair of Fang Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping in the first round.

The Indians who took part in the Super 300 tournament include Kidambi Srikanth, Sameer Verma, HS Prannoy, Saina Nehwal, Malvika Bansod, French Open champion Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.
