Mr. Perfectionist Aamir KhanThe official adaptation of the 1994 American comedy-drama film Forrest Gump was released on August 11, 2022. The much-awaited film which is a remake of the Hollywood classic had grabbed the attention of many and there were high expectations of it. Such is the influence of Forrest Gump that it claimed six Academy Awards. Aamir Khan has put a lot of time into this project and has accepted the fact that getting the rights of the film was a big hassle. Eyeing a window to earn a long weekend, Aamir’s film received a mixed response. Criticism is rife, especially from those who have had the chance to see Tom Hanks in the original role.

To Mr Khan’s dismay, even before its release, the film has been in the news, and unfortunately not for a good reason. Aamir, who is returning to the 70mm silver screen after four years, is facing heavy criticism. Some sections of the society have been very vocal and are constantly asking the audience to boycott the film. Aamir’s character Lal, who also happens to be a male protagonist, belongs to the Sikh community.

To avoid any religious or communal disturbance, Aamir Khan Productions screened the film for the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) earlier this month. The SGPC cleared the film and suggested no major changes. Now in a new set of controversy, ex-English cricketer Monty Panesar, who belongs to the Sikh community, has cursed the film from left right and middle. Panesar, who is known for his disobedience, took to Twitter to share how embarrassing he found the film.

Looking at Panesar’s tweet, it can be easily understood that the cricketer is also not a big fan of the classic Forrest Gump. Monty Panesar has termed the film derogatory and derogatory and called for a boycott. With boycott voices rising, the fate of Laal Singh Chaddha still hangs in the balance and it will be interesting to see how the film weathers this storm.
