“Last Tweet from my team…”: How the former Twitter social chief signed out

As Twitter continues the massive layoffs that began after its dramatic takeover of Elon Musk, sacked employees are tweeting their sentiments on the platform, prompting significant changes within the social media giant.

Twitter’s now former Global Head of Social and Editorial Alfonzo Terrell added to the discourse by sharing a picture of a tweet from Twitter’s official handle that will never see the light of day.

Alfonzo Terrell wrote from his handle called Fonz, “Wouldn’t get to tweet this but it is – the last twitter tweet from my team and I love you all and thank you for the honor of a lifetime.”

He ended the tweet with the hashtag “One Team”, a tag being used by several other fired Twitter employees.

Mr Terrell also tagged his team in the thread, saying he wants to “create something new” and “build the next era of social”.

Responses to the tweet were filled with condolences to Mr Terrell and everyone else who had been affected by the tsunami of layoffs launched by Musk to reel in costs.

The new owner of the microblogging site today justified the move, saying there was “no choice” when the company was losing millions of dollars a day. “All those exiting were offered 3 months severance, which is 50% more than what is legally required,” he said.

Twitter has fired most of its over 200 employees in India. Sources said the layoffs are in engineering, sales and marketing and communications teams.

Additionally, several Twitter employees filed a class action lawsuit Thursday night alleging that Twitter was already in violation of the federal and California Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act) after laying off some employees, CNN reported.
