In his career spanning seven decades, he has sung many memorable songs including “Ajeeb Dastaan ​​Hai Yeh”, “Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya” and “Neela Asman So Gaya”.

Known as the Melody Queen of India, the singer has been honored with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, as well as the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke awards.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar called his death “the end of an era”.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that Lata Mangeshkar’s “golden voice is immortal and will resonate in the hearts of her fans”.

Sharing a picture of himself with the legendary singer, Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, “His demise is a personal loss to me”.
