“Law and order has collapsed”: BJP’s Bengal chief slams Mamata after party worker shot dead

BJP West Bengal president and MP Sukanta Majumdar hit out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the killing of a party worker in East Bardhaman district on April 2, saying law and order has collapsed in the state.

BJP worker Raju Jha was shot dead by some unknown miscreants on the night of April 1 at Shaktigarh in East Bardhaman district.

Speaking to media persons here on April 2, Majumdar said, “It is not important to which party he (the deceased) belonged. What matters is that a citizen of the state was shot dead by five people in broad daylight. Such incidents This has never happened in Bengal before. We only heard about such incidents in other states.”

Majumdar said, “The fact that such incidents are happening here shows that the law and order situation in the state has completely broken down.”

The state BJP chief was stopped by the police from visiting violence-hit Shibpur in Howrah as Section 144 was imposed in the area.

On the BJP delegation not being allowed to visit the spot, Majumdar said, “We were not allowed to go. I will report to the governor. Law and order has broken down in the state. Riots are happening, people are at large.” Shots are being fired, and the police are working only for members of a community at the behest of the Chief Minister. The people of West Bengal should also understand that Mamta Banerjee is not the CM of the state, but only of people of a particular religion.

They also demanded that the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) be deployed in the state in the light of the Shubhpur violence and the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“The situation is not normal right now. I will apprise the Governor of the ground reality. Many people I have spoken to have told me that they are living in fear of more violence. Central and state governments should urgently discuss deployment ” CAPF here. There should also be a CBI inquiry into the violence in Shibpur,” the BJP chief of BJP further said.

Earlier, on April 2, Mr Majumdar had met the victims Violence broke out in Howrah during Ram Navami Celebration. He offered prayers at the Sheetla temple in Howrah and paid floral tributes. The Bengal BJP chief also paid last respects to the late BJP worker at Apollo Hospital.

Earlier on March 30, two groups… clashed in howrah Amidst Ram Navami celebrations in the state. Several vehicles were torched and public and private properties were damaged during the clashes.

West Bengal Police on 1 April said that a total of 38 people have been arrested, two cases have been registered and Section 144 has been imposed in some areas.
