Lehri Instrumentation Unit ready to produce Lead Free Brass Valve

Chennai based Lehri Instrumentation & Valves Pvt. Ltd. has set up a ₹30 crore non-ferrous integrated production facility near Chennai to manufacture lead-free brass valves for the infrastructure and utility markets, said MD Abbas S Lehri.

“Set up at Gummudipundi Industrial Estate, the new plant will start churning out 5,000 lead-free forged brass valves and water-saving products daily from Sunday,” Mr. Lehri said.

The new factory is spread over 60,000 square feet, and will now provide employment to 100 people. It will be inaugurated on Sunday by NK Ranganathan, former MD of Grundfos Pumps.

“Recently, we were importing this product from China,” Mr. Lehri said. “The pandemic forced us to think of setting up our unit. It is an import replacement product and the cost savings for the end customer will be around 20%. The cost of the project is partly met through internal accruals and borrowings,” he said.

Hussain Lehri, Technical Director, said that Lehri Instrumentation will be the first company to get ISI certification for a Made-in-India product. He said the company is planning to export 50 per cent of the products.

Lehri Valves was started 72 years back as a trading company. In 2006, it set up a unit in Jalandhar to manufacture ferrous valves for castings and utilities, followed by a green sand foundry in 2015.

“Right now, we have an order book for 1.5 lakh pieces. In the next six months, we will start the second shift and after a year put in place new production lines,” said Mr. Hussain Lehri.

“It is a fast growing market and currently we are addressing only B2B segment. Very soon we will enter B2C segment. In the next three years, we will get ₹50 crore from new plant and ₹50 crore from Jalandhar plant. We expect to earn a revenue of Rs. Crore,” Mr. Abbas Lehri said.
