Lenovo, Apple Lead Tablet Market Growth

China’s Lenovo continues to dominate India’s growing market for tablets despite geopolitical tensions between the two countries, which has forced New Delhi to impose several restrictions on doing business with its northern neighbour.

Overall, tablet shipments in India grew the most in four quarters in the three months ended December 31, driven by demand from individual consumers during the pandemic as well as corporates. Overall, tablet shipments in the country grew for the second year in a row in 2021 as the pandemic fueled new demand for learning and working remotely.

Market research firm CyberMedia Research (CMR) said in its quarterly report released on Thursday that overall shipments climbed 31% in the December quarter compared to a year ago, helping 2021 shipments grow by 4%. The number of tablets shipped was not disclosed in the report. This was the second consecutive year of growth in tablet sales in India.

Maneka Kumari, Analyst, Industry Intelligence Group at CMR said festive season sales in the consumer segment contributed to the quarterly growth. “Beyond the B2C (business-to-consumer) segment, the B2B (business-to-business) tablet segment also saw a significant growth, especially in healthcare and digital education among other sectors,” he added.
