Letter to Editor – December 23, 2021

The article, “Changing the Symbolism of Power” (editorial page, December 22), appears to be replete with criticisms against the ruling system. There is nothing new in the long story of the author, who comes across more like a run-of-the-mill opposition politician than an intellectual historian. Though some policy decisions by the NDA government have been hasty and not implemented effectively, using some issues to crush the government only exposes a mindset that is against the BJP. Being a historian, I am sure he is well aware of what happened to the once grand temples.

Unfortunately, politics in India has become very polarized and all political parties are to blame for this. Seeing everything wrong in others and presenting oneself as right has become the norm rather than the exception. This is not a good sign for the nation. Do we need articles that just keep the cauldron of division alive and burning?

His government’s approach to the opposition and parliamentary proceedings has not been in the best spirit of democracy.

The report, “CB-CID to probe act of lawyer on camera” (Tamil Nadu, 22 December), left a stunned one. It is shocking that a lawyer committed such a reprehensible act. It is a matter of relief that the investigating agency is investigating.
