Let us not forget that the devastating onslaught of the second wave of COVID-19 in India resulted in ‘capacity’ and chest thumping which raised questions on the ‘Vaccine Friendship Scheme’ and the subject of criticism. So, when it comes to India’s renewed ‘commitment’ to restart exports of COVID-19 vaccines (page 1, September 21) – even if it comes in the wake of a third wave of the pandemic, scuttling a faltering domestic economy. Be prepared – policy makers will certainly exercise caution and make a less scathing display of ‘commitment’.

For almost all political parties in Kerala, Pala Bishop’s remarks have come across as a useful and unexpected tool to expand their existing vote-bank and create new ones. They are using every trick to cheat people in the name of protecting minorities and secularism. It is for the people of Kerala to see through the games that politicians play for their selfish reasons. Almost all the religions of the state are full of immense wealth. Why such property is not used for the upliftment and welfare of the poor and downtrodden in the state irrespective of their religion, caste or creed? It is time the religious leaders in the state upheld and followed the true tenets of their religions, and became social reformers and spiritual lights. If this happens, Kerala is destined to become God’s own country. The boiling distrust should not end there.
