Letter to the Editor – October 18, 2021

It is surprising that Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, as “a full-time and practical Congress President”, does not use the occasion of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting to take leaders including G-23 members with her. . (page 1, “Congress announces organizational elections”, October 17). A deeper introspection of why some leaders had to openly express their concerns could have been beneficial to the top leadership and the cadre. The Congress needs to attract talent and ensure that leaders, veterans and youth are not isolated. It is not clear what the five-hour-long CWC meeting has achieved other than announcing an organizational election schedule, which will result in “election” a new chairman after a year! A year is a very long time in politics. It is clear that the ground is being prepared for Rahul Gandhi, who is still in the “look at it” phase as he prepares to take over as President. It is no secret that Mr. Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are running the show.

The victory of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2021 is commendable. The brilliant captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni followed the experience of the team. As Ian Bishop put it, “CSK’s performances are consistent throughout the IPL and that’s what makes them a classic team.”

It is a matter of great relief that the Mudumalai tiger, ‘MDT23’ has been successfully captured.

The effort of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department to resolve this issue of human-animal conflict peacefully is commendable. Animal lovers also thank the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court who quashed the order to kill the tiger.

We need to understand the problems of wild animals because ‘MDT 23’ was old and injured and need help looking at his pictures.

Every creature reflects the beauty of God and tigers are magnificent and majestic. There is no doubt that two people have lost their lives because of this tiger. But it is we humans who have occupied or encroached upon the habitats.
