Letter to the Editor – October 28, 2021

In a heterogeneous population like India, with diverse religious practices, illiteracy, superstitions and beliefs, strengthening the vaccination campaign is indeed an unprecedented achievement, that too in a very short span of time. It speaks of the discipline of the common man for falling in line. But if you look closely, the drive is still halfway through. All Indians have to focus on getting vaccinated.

The report, “Welcome to the musts and tank threads” (inside page, October 27), was interesting. However, some references made by Bimal Patel – whose design firm is the center’s consultant for the entire Central Vista redevelopment project – are an example, “these people who bring their horses during the Republic Day parade.” It is very sad that Mr. Patel has addressed the soldiers of the Indian Army as “these people”. Also “these people” don’t bring their “horse” just like that. The horses belong to the famous cavalry of the Indian Army. Being a part of the Republic Parade is service to the nation and promotes national pride.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has chaired a meeting to review the precautionary measures being taken in the state in view of the onset of northeast monsoon (Tamil Nadu, October 27). However, it is certainly not enough.

After the formation of Mr. Stalin’s government from the AIADMK, the focus has been on the main roads; The condition of many internal roads is very bad. There are open manholes in many parts and the attention given by the civic authorities is not encouraging. Chief Minister should pay attention as people don’t want action replay of 2015.
