congress election

The fact that Congress will now provide a list of over 9,000 delegates in connection with the Congressional presidential election process – much sought after by some of its MPs – in the name of ‘transparency’ still gives no credence to the party’s earlier According to the claim that it will conduct elections in a free and fair manner (page 1, September 11). The development only highlights the fact that there are still many people in the party who want the entire election process to be a ‘mystery’ somehow.

Long March, Long Road

If Congress’s ‘Bharat Jodi Yatra’ is to be successful, it needs to adopt Gandhian methods of interacting with the throngs of India, listening to them, knowing their mood and telling them about the party’s programmes. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should tell him how his party can improve his condition and also strengthen India’s age-old mixed culture.

Since the pro-establishment media at large, especially its electronic avatar, is likely to portray the Yatra in a bad light, Mr. Gandhi should tap the party’s propaganda department to ensure that the message of the Yatra reaches those on the fence. Arrive. The long march could be an opportunity for him to free himself from the congregation and reconnect with the grassroots party workers, who should be encouraged to ensure better prospects for the party in 2024.

Queen Elizabeth II

While most of us who were born in independent India have had the opportunity to learn about the rule of past rulers from the history books itself, that we have experienced the Elizabethan era and the greatness of the emperor is suggestive. The Queen has given a different perspective to many of us. If many people in the world are in mourning, it is also a reflection of the way the emperor conducted himself. The Queen’s visit to Madras in 1961 brings back many memories for some of us.

Queen Elizabeth II scripted a royal epic that spanned several fascinating stages over seven decades of modern history. He took office in the decade when the mighty British Empire morphed into an island kingdom and a world war that forced not only the UK but every other country to rebuild fragmented economies. In fact he presided over two full 30-year economic cycles ending with Brexit, COVID-19 and Ukraine. His capable and prolonged office would support the concept of long term tenure for sovereign heads of state.
